Promoter Ricky Hatton has revealed his team is in the process of announcing some “really, really major” news for Martin Murray in the forthcoming weeks.

The St Helens middleweight, who is yet to taste defeat in 24 professional fights, will battle it out with French champion Karim Achour at Manchester Velodrome tomorrow evening.

Despite the hatred between the two, a bout with Birmingham-based Matthew Macklin seems unlikely after Murray revealed last month he was looking for a bigger challenge.

A world title fight is certainly a possibility after the 29-year-old almost snatched Felix Sturm’s world version in December – holding the German to a draw on his own patch.

Murray also revealed to Lincboxing earlier in the year how a fight with the winner of Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez and Irishman Andy Lee – also tomorrow night – is on the horizon.

Hatton said: “We are in the process of announcing something really, really major for Martin Murray in the forthcoming weeks.

“But he has the chance to impress on Saturday against the French champion.

“He has the chance to show how he has improved since that wonderful draw with Felix Sturm.”
