Julio Cesar Chavez stops Andy Lee in style

Julio Cesar Chavez Junior retained his WBC middleweight title after recovering from a slow start to stop the dangerous Irishman Andy Lee in the seventh round last night.

A beautiful right uppercut by Chavez snapped Lee’s head back and Chavez connected with a barrage of punches before referee Laurence Cole intervened and stopped the bout.

Chavez (46-0-1, 32 KOs) began tentatively and was initially outboxed by Lee (28-2), a much taller challenger than Chavez had previously faced.
But, the Mexican began to work harder and eventually proved far too strong for Lee.
