Shane McPhilbin aims to regain British crown when he fights Jon Lewis Dickinson

Shane McPhilbin will hope to regain the British cruiserweight title when he fights Jon Lewis Dickinson later this year.

The Nottinghamshire fighter (eight wins, three losses) lost his title under controversial circumstances to Enzo Maccarinelli in March.

The Welshman was floored and in big trouble during the first round before the bell was somehow rung early – saving Maccarinelli from what many at ringside believed would be a shock defeat.

He went on to secure a points win, despite dropping to the canvas for a second time.

With purse bids currently being negotiated, the contest will take place before the end of October this year at a venue yet to be named.

Instead of facing McPhilbin in a rematch, Maccarinelli relinquished the title in favour of a possible world title showdown with WBO champion Nathan Cleverly.

“I felt I was robbed against Enzo and getting a chance to get my title back is what I’ve wanted since that fight,” McPhilbin told Lincboxing.

Dickinson, from County Durham, has a professional record of 11 wins and two defeats. He beat previously unbeaten Matty Askin on points in April.
