TONY Bellew returns to the ring for the first time since his knockout victory against Danny McIntosh with a clash against two-time former super-middleweight champion Edison Miranda on September 8.

The Liverpudlian stormed to a fifth-round knockout victory against Norfolk’s McIntosh at his home-city Echo Arena in April, but on the Sky Sports show he will co-headline with the returning Darren Barker at the Alexandra Palace in London.

The WBC international light-heavyweight title will be at stake, but for Bellew it’s the calibre of opponent which excites him the most, as Miranda has fought Andrew Ward Lucian Bute, Arthur Abraham and Kelly Pavlik – although he lost all four of those contests.

“He’s a world-class name and the sort of guy I’ve been looking to fight for some time now,” said the 29-year-old.

“When you look at the guys he’s fought and the titles he’s boxed for, you know you are sharing the ring with someone who is at the top level. It should be a great fight as he can punch and he comes to fight.

“McIntosh was a European champion and I beat him up convincingly so I’ve proved I belong at European level at least. But I’ve always thought that I can aim higher and if I can do a job on Miranda then that will prove it.”
