Super middleweight Jonjo Finnegan is in intensive care after being knocked out in Friday night’s International Masters title contest.

The Burton-on-Trent boxer, fighting at home in a bid to take the title from holder Ryan Clark, was floored in the sixth round of their contest.

Finnegan was said to have been knocked out before he hit the canvas and was attended to by medical staff before being taken to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre, at which surgery was performed.

Many figures from the world of boxing have taken to social networking site Twitter to send their best wishes to Finnegan.

Clark’s manager, Carl Greaves, said: “Not slept much, things like that happening are your worst nightmare. Hope he makes a full recovery.”
