Following his side-bet with Dave Haye prior to their heavyweight title fight at West Ham United, Dereck Chisora  presented a cheque of £20,000 to the founders of David Haye’s charity of choice, the ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) in Central London.

The donation will go towards supporting the ACLT’s lifesaving work through spreading awareness and increasing the number of ethnic minorities on the UK bone marrow, blood and organ donation registries through national recruitment drives.

Liam Walsh unhappy despite Urbano win – says he “wasn’t there” emotionally

LIAM Walsh was unhappy with his performance despite easing to a TKO victory against Domenico Urbano.

The Cromer-based boxer, appearing on the undercard of the controversial David Haye v Dereck Chisora bout at West Ham United’s Upton Park, was far too good for his Italian opponent.

GRAHAM Everett says he will take a risk by cornering his boxer Liam Walsh in tonight’s Dereck Chicora v David Haye show at Upton Park – but hopes British boxing’s internal politics can be resolved.

The Norwich-based trainer will support Cromer-based Walsh, who has not fought since September’s fight of the year victory against Paul Appleby, when he faces Domenico Urbano for the vacant WBO European lightweight title.

Amid threat and counter-threat involving the British Boxing Board of Control, promoter Frank Warren – with whom Walsh is signed – plus the Luxembourg Boxing Federation, who are operating the show, Everett says he would rather the main parties thrash out a compromise. But he concedes that while the conciliation option remains distant, he’ll continue to back his fighter.

“I could lose my manager’s licence and trainer’s licence,” said Everett.

“That is very wrong. Liam Walsh is a full-time professional and this is an absolutely ridiculous situation.

“I have been in the gym seven days a week for God knows how many months, and I need to get paid. I had a show recently (in Norwich) which has been postponed, so I wasn’t paid for that.

“I have no gripe with the BBBofC, but we are contracted to Frank Warren.

“If they had said ‘would Scott Moises or Nathan Dale fight on the show?’ my answer would be no because I daren’t take the risk.

“So I hope and pray that they get their heads together and get a compromise. They should get round a table and discuss their problems and grievances, that’s something that should happen for boxing to move forward.

“We are all better off with boxing under one roof. “

Everett, a BBBofC licence holder since the early 1990s, still has some small criticisms of the board despite backing their jurisdiction.

“They need to be more democratic, a bit more open about how things are done. They need to listen to the licence holders,” he said.

“They have never done me any wrong. But times change.

“Look at the growth of unlicensed and white collar boxing. Most people haven’t got a clue who they are watching, but it’s 14 fights for £20 and they can watch their mates. There is a lot more of this stuff going on.

“Unlicensed stuff is getting big and they haven’t got big overheads. The board need to change with the times.”
